All About Chemistry is the 4th album from the American rock band, Semisonic. It was released in 2001, by record label MCA and due to the poor sales, this is the album that caused the band to go their separate ways. It is claimed that some Semisonic fans were dissatisfied with the lighter feel to this album, after the masterpiece that was Feeling Strangely Fine and the success of “Secret Smile” and “Closing time” (two of the bands best loved hits).
In my opinion I feel that All About Chemistry is a good album. It’s not as great as Feeling Strangely Fine, yet it still holds its own. The songs are definitely distinctly different to the tracks featured on Feeling Strangely Fine, and they have more of an upbeat / popish feel to them. Dan Wilson’s vocals are still as great as ever though!.
It’s quite a happy album and whenever I listen to it my mood is instantly lifted, it reminds me of good times and memories and makes me smile.
My personal favourite songs on this album would be the title track, “Chemistry“, which is very upbeat and catchy and “One true love” which was co-written with Carole King, and is simply beautiful to listen to.
