Nip/Tuck The Complete First Season
This DVD box set of Nip/Tuck The Complete First Season will throw you headlong into the controversial drama that took America by storm. The central characters, Miami-based plastic surgeons Sean McNamara and Christian Troy are best friends and business partners, and yet they couldn’t be more different.
Sean (Dylan Walsh) is a slightly brow-beaten family man whose marriage to the beautiful and complicated Julia (Joely Richardson) is in decline. Christian (Julian McMahon) is a superficial and arrogant charmer who once dated Julia and still holds a torch for her.
Christian Troy’s character could easily have been rather two-dimensional, but the writers have made him very complex and allowed him to develop as a person throughout the entire series. Without giving too much away, I shall simply say that during this season, events conspire to make a man of Christian. Of course he doesn’t change too much, for without his flaws he wouldn’t be half as much fun. We also see that there is a lot of vulnerability and a good heart at his core.
This is one of my favourite seasons of Nip/Tuck because it is totally gripping, and full of twists and turns. It is darkly funny, fraught with dramatic tension, and the writing is absolutely top-notch.
