Nip/Tuck is a guilty pleasure. It is a trashy, grown-up drama with compelling storylines and a disturbingly dark sense of humour. Dylan Walsh and Julian McMahon are brilliantly engaging as Sean McNamara and Christian Troy, best friends and partners in a plastic surgery practice in beauty-obsessed Miami, Florida.
Nip/Tuck: Complete Second Season delves deeper into their co-dependent and highly competitive friendship, Sean’s troubled relationship with wife Julia (Joely Richardson), and Christian’s many conquests, as well as allowing us further access into the world of cosmetic surgery, where things are not always pretty. Their clients have diverse and sometimes amusing or even sinister motivations for wanting to go under the knife.
During this season the client list will grow to include (for reasons I shouldn’t disclose) Christian, Julia’s mother and later, Julia herself.
Something I really enjoy about Nip/Tuck is that it is crafted in a way that I have never really seen before. The story arcs are extremely far-reaching and sometimes the writers will plant a seed for something and not pick up on it again until much later in the series, things will lie dormant for a while and may take a long time before they are fully resolved.
