The Will And Grace Seasons 1-8 Box Set is the definitive collection of this cleverly written, superbly acted hit sitcom about modern relationships. It’s impossible not to love the slightly kooky Debra Messing as hetero Jewish interior designer Grace Adler, and the understated Eric McCormack as her best friend Will Truman, a gay Wasp lawyer.
Having briefly embarked upon a doomed relationship, during which Will proposed marriage to Grace in order to procrastinate sleeping with her before coming out to her, the two are now best friends and share quite a few in-jokes and an apartment in New York. The intense closeness between the two of them is often a source of intimidation to their lovers.
My favourite characters are their best friends: the self-obsessed Jack, a lovable moocher who suffers from extremely high self-esteem, is played by gifted physical comedian Sean Hayes. Jack is a struggling Thespian who later ventures into the world of nursing and ends up with his own talk show. Megan Mullally is hilarious as helium-voiced ice queen Karen who is excessively wealthy and supposedly works as Grace’s assistant but really just drinks Martinis and makes snide remarks all day. The laughs never stop and the writing is bitingly witty and incredibly astute.
