I could just say "a dozen Jack Sparrows on one ship" and leave it at that, but that's too little gushing even for me. Some have called the plot confusing, others say it drags a little. What drags a little is a ball and chain around your ankles, At World's End is pure movie gold!
From a student of film's point of view cinematically its beautiful and the action sequences are some of the best I've watched since Kill Bill hit the big screen. Ignoring Keira Knightlys less than stellar performance (though even I have to admit she's improved greatly...if only she could look less dazed) Pirates Of The Caribbean At World's End is extremely enjoyable with some real laughs out loud moments and more than a few nail biting scenes.
A brief synopsis would run like this. Jack has been eaten by what looks like a squid with attitude, that's the Kracken, and is now in the land of the dead, a land that looks very much like a desert. Perhaps the land is what the person fears most, for Jack a place with no water with a ship that cannot sail...pure torture. This causes him to go mad and there is an amazingly funny scene in which dozens of Jack Sparrows aboard the Black Pearl argue and then attempt to set sail.
Elizabeth Swann has already pledged to get Jack back with the help of her rather peeved fiancé Will Turner, the long thought dead Captain Barbosa and the pirates of the east. And they do, Jack is saved and that should be the end of the story, but it isn't, the East India Trading company (you remember that brief mention from film one) has set out to destroy all pirates and its up to the king/queen of the pirates to save them all. Unfortunately there hasnt been a king/queen in years because nobody can vote for anyone else. That is until Jack votes for Elizabeth Swann...yes, we were all stunned too. But Elizabeth has improved, no longer stuck up and snotty she can carry a sword and use it too and no longer wears such silly dresses to go to battle in. With her leading them the worlds pirates head for battle and possible certain doom.
Whilst Pirates Of The Caribbean At World's End is not as funny as the first movie (which admittedly had a fresh originality that endeared the audience) it was more action packed than the first two put together and is a great dvd to watch after a hard day at work.
